About the Role

As Assistant Director of Technology Licensing at Penn, you'll play a key part in identifying, evaluating, and stewarding technological innovations that emerge from our faculty and research teams. This position offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on the university's culture of innovation and its contributions to the broader economy and scientific community.

What You'll Do

  • Support the evaluation and protection of new inventions and intellectual property from university researchers and inventors
  • Assist in preparing, negotiating, and executing technology licensing agreements with industry partners and commercialization platforms
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of patent portfolios, licensing agreements, inventor disclosures, and associated records
  • Coordinate with faculty inventors, university legal counsel, research administrators, and external technology licensing partners
  • Help manage the complete lifecycle of licensed technologies from initial disclosure through licensing execution and ongoing management
  • Support outreach and business development efforts to connect university innovations with potential commercial partners
  • Contribute to tracking and reporting on technology licensing metrics, activity, and revenue distribution

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, natural sciences, business, law, or a related technical field
  • Solid understanding of intellectual property law, patent processes, and technology commercialization principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effectively engaging diverse stakeholders
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent organizational abilities
  • Experience working in an academic research environment, technology licensing office, or innovation-focused setting strongly preferred
