AIT & Mechanical Technician

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential aerospace client in Reading who is developing next-generation satellite technology. They are seeking an experienced AIT & Mechanical Technician to join their lean assembly and integration team working on cutting-edge low Earth orbit systems.

Responsibilities

You will be a hands-on technician responsible for precision mechanical assembly, integration, and test support across the full hardware lifecycle:

• Perform precision mechanical assembly of satellite structures, subsystems, and propulsion components to engineering drawings and procedures
• Apply and record fastener torques using calibrated tooling in accordance with specifications
• Handle flight hardware following contamination control, ESD, and cleanliness procedures
• Maintain cleanroom operations including monitoring, gowning, and logging to ISO class requirements
• Install thermal blankets (MLI) and thermal control hardware
• Build mechanical test fixtures, jigs, and ground support equipment from drawings
• Support vibration, shock, and structural test campaigns including fixture build and post-test inspection
• Support propulsion system integration into satellite structure
• Maintain as-built records, travellers, torque records, and non-conformance reports for full traceability
• Perform goods-in inspection of mechanical parts and materials against purchase orders and drawings
• Log received items into programme inventory and quarantine non-conforming parts

What We're Looking For

Essential requirements:

• Proven hands-on experience in precision mechanical assembly of aerospace, defence, or high-reliability hardware
• Practical experience applying and recording fastener torques with calibrated tooling
• Experience working in cleanroom or ISO-classified environments
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings including GD&T callouts
• Experience building and operating mechanical test fixtures and GSE
• Strong attention to detail and discipline in documentation and traceability
• ESD-aware working practices
• Safety-first mindset around structural test, pressurised systems, and vacuum environments

Beneficial experience:

• Space industry or satellite assembly background
• Familiarity with ECSS workmanship standards, particularly ECSS-Q-ST-70
• MLI and thermal blanket installation experience
• Basic CAD literacy (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar)
• Structural test campaign support (vibration, shock, static load)
• Propulsion system assembly or pressure system hardware experience

• Collaborative team player who can take direction while owning quality of deliverables
