AIML – Sr Machine Learning Engineer, Responsible AI

Apple is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer specializing in Responsible AI to join our Monte Vista office in Santa Clara County. In this role, you'll develop and refine generative AI systems that prioritize both safety and inclusivity, ensuring Apple's AI-powered features benefit all users equitably.

About the Role

You'll own the evaluation and enhancement of safety and inclusivity metrics across Apple's generative AI products and features. This is a hands-on technical position where you'll architect measurement frameworks, design evaluation protocols, and implement solutions that reduce bias and potential harms in AI systems at scale. Your work will directly shape how Apple's next-generation AI capabilities are tested and improved before reaching users worldwide.

Core Duties

• Design and execute comprehensive safety and inclusivity assessments for generative AI models and applications
• Develop quantitative methodologies to measure model performance across diverse user populations and use cases
• Build evaluation pipelines and testing infrastructure that enable rapid iteration on model improvements
• Collaborate with product, research, and policy teams to translate safety findings into engineering recommendations
• Contribute to the broader responsible AI field through internal research and technical documentation

Who We're Looking For

• Deep expertise in machine learning, with proven experience evaluating or improving model safety, fairness, or robustness
• Strong foundation in statistics, experimental design, and rigorous analysis of model behavior
• Experience building scalable ML systems, ideally in production environments handling large datasets
• Familiarity with generative AI, large language models, or multimodal systems
• Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical findings for cross-functional audiences
