About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech scale-up seeking an AI Software Engineer to join their newly formed AI Lab in Lyon, France. This is a rare opportunity to shape how an entire organization leverages AI across all departments—from sales and customer success to finance, product, and executive leadership.

Our client is transitioning to become an AI-first company. While they're training all employees to work with AI, certain projects require dedicated technical expertise. That's where the AI Lab comes in: a small, high-impact team building internal tools that transform how hundreds of colleagues work daily.

This is a founding engineering hire on a three-person team (including you): one junior AI engineer, a part-time Tech Lead (your manager), and a Product Manager. You'll bring the senior technical perspective the team needs—balancing speed with maintainability, building infrastructure that scales, and mentoring junior talent.

Responsibilities

You'll alternate rapidly between scoping, building, and iterating:

• Understand and prioritize: Work directly with business teams to identify high-impact AI opportunities versus nice-to-haves
• Build end-to-end: Own internal tools from scoping through production deployment and ongoing iteration with users
• Evolve shared AI infrastructure: Develop MCP servers, integrations, and cross-functional tooling available company-wide
• Make architectural decisions: Choose stack, design infrastructure, and establish patterns that allow the team to scale—there's minimal legacy to constrain you
• Elevate team capability: Mentor the junior engineer, establish best practices, conduct meaningful code reviews
• Identify opportunities proactively: Spot processes where AI delivers real gains and build solutions without waiting to be asked

Example projects in your first six months:

• Build a product feedback loop system that aggregates client calls, RFPs, and support tickets, then generates prioritized recommendations for Product Managers
• Deploy MCP server infrastructure at scale, connecting colleagues' daily tools to AI capabilities across the organization

What We're Looking For

We need a senior engineer with Tech Lead experience—someone who has made impactful technical decisions, driven demanding projects to production, and actively explored AI territory:

• ~4-5 years minimum software development experience shipping production systems
• Tech Lead or equivalent experience: You've driven architecture and infrastructure decisions, and know how to balance velocity against technical debt
• Recent, hands-on LLM practice: You've experimented with Claude, OpenAI, Mistral—you're driving AI exploration, not just observing it
• Python and TypeScript proficiency—though choosing the right tool matters more than any single language
• Solid technical foundations: You understand and can explain what you're building
• Ship fast, prioritize impact: You're a doer who delivers working software over slide decks
• Proactive and curious: You identify opportunities before they're formally requested
• Professional English fluency required (many colleagues are English-speaking)
• Comfortable with autonomy: In a team of three, there's nowhere to hide—and you prefer it that way

Technical environment:

• LLMs: Claude (Anthropic), OpenAI, Mistral—multi-provider approach, choose the best model for each use case
• Languages: Primarily Python and TypeScript
• Infrastructure: Yours to build with real decision authority
• Internal AI tooling: MCP servers, shared AI platform, agents connected to business tools
• Delivery: Continuous deployment, daily production releases, direct user feedback

Working style:

• Full autonomy—you decide, you own your choices
• High ship rate: daily releases, measure, iterate (no ceremonial sprints)
• Full remote or hybrid (Lyon/Paris)—occasional Lyon visits possible (~every 6 weeks) but never mandatory
• AI-native workflow: The team uses Claude, OpenAI, and Mistral daily in delivery

What's offered:

• Compensation: €55,000 - €70,000 based on experience + SYNTEC vacation bonus
• CDI (permanent contract), 39-hour work week with 4 paid overtime hours

Pay
