Remote Industrial Automation Consultant

TheHiveCareers is hiring a Remote Industrial Automation Consultant to optimise a leading FMCG manufacturer's operations in the Caribbean region. This contract-based engagement, spanning 36 months, offers a remote-first working arrangement with occasional on-site visits during critical implementation phases.

About the Role

You'll lead a transformational automation programme for our client, a rapidly scaling FMCG manufacturer modernising its operations through Industry 4.0 technologies. The engagement operates on a remote-first model with periodic on-site visits during implementation milestones. You'll work across time zones, collaborating with the Caribbean-based team to identify automation opportunities, architect integrated control systems, and deploy intelligent manufacturing solutions that reduce downtime and enhance output consistency.

What You'll Do

• Audit existing manufacturing operations remotely to identify automation opportunities and inefficiencies.
• Design comprehensive automation solutions spanning production lines, refrigeration units, packaging operations, and quality assurance processes.
• Oversee the development and deployment of PLC, HMI, and SCADA infrastructure, coordinating with on-site technical teams.
• Implement predictive maintenance frameworks using IoT sensors to monitor equipment health and prevent breakdowns.
• Integrate AI-powered visual inspection capabilities for consistent automated quality control.
• Establish connections between ERP and MES platforms to create a unified, data-driven production environment.
• Ensure all automation designs comply with food safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Document system specifications thoroughly and deliver remote training sessions to client personnel.
• Provide ongoing technical support and system optimisation throughout the engagement.

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Automation, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or equivalent discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on industrial automation experience, ideally within FMCG or food production sectors.
• Deep proficiency in PLC programming—Siemens, Allen Bradley, or comparable platforms.
• Proven expertise with SCADA and HMI systems in operational environments.
• Demonstrated experience providing remote automation consulting and supporting geographically distributed teams.
• Strong knowledge of Industrial IoT architecture, sensor integration, and control systems.
• Familiarity with food-grade automation standards and hygiene compliance frameworks.
• Preferred: background automating dairy, frozen food, beverage, or ice cream production; expertise with AI/ML vision systems; ERP/MES integration experience; knowledge of Industry 4.0 platforms and cloud data infrastructure.
