Staff Mechanical Engineer, Dimensional Management

Formenergy is hiring a full-time Staff Mechanical Engineer, Dimensional Management in Berkeley, CA to lead dimensional engineering standards for our iron-air battery systems. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Role Overview

Formenergy is scaling production of iron-air batteries to power America's energy transition. As Staff Mechanical Engineer in our Dimensional Management function, you'll own the design-to-manufacturing interface, ensuring every battery cell, module, and pack maintains the precision tolerances critical to performance and reliability. Reporting to the Lead Dimensional Engineer, you'll be the organizational champion for dimensional engineering best practices, driving adoption of ASME Y14.5-2018 standards across hardware teams and translating engineering strategy into manufacturable designs at our production facility.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Develop and manage standard operating procedures for dimensional control across all hardware development teams
• Champion ASME Y14.5-2018 compliance and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing expertise throughout the organization
• Lead tolerance analysis studies, resolve interface conflicts between design and manufacturing, and optimize assemblies for first-time yield
• Partner with Design, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to eliminate dimensional risk and ensure serviceability
• Mentor engineering teams on GD&T methodology and dimensional management fundamentals

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, plus 8+ years in dimensional management, GD&T, and interface control
• Proven track record building and scaling engineering standards processes in high-volume manufacturing environments
• Strong cross-functional communication skills to translate between designers, quality engineers, manufacturers, and suppliers
• Hands-on experience solving real manufacturing challenges through dimensional optimization
• Background in early-stage product development and scaling from prototypes to production
• Expert-level knowledge of tolerance stack-up analysis and design-for-manufacturability principles
