Fluidstack

Fluidstack seeks an experienced Lead Controls Systems Engineer, Deployment Engineering (remote, based in Austin, TX) to lead commissioning and operational ownership of mission-critical control systems across rapidly scaling data center infrastructure. This full-time role is for an engineer who owns deployment end-to-end, builds standards across multiple sites, and ensures systems are reliable from day one.

Role Overview

As Lead Controls Systems Engineer in Deployment Engineering, you'll drive the translation from engineering blueprints into live, operational infrastructure. This work bridges design and operations—validating that architectural specifications become commissioning-ready systems, ensuring reliability at handover, and building playbooks that make each successive deployment faster and cleaner than the last.

Responsibilities

  • Lead full-cycle deployment and commissioning of BMS, SCADA, and EPMS systems across multiple greenfield data center sites, from pre-deployment validation through energization and operations handover
  • Own operational reliability across the live control system fleet; investigate failures to root cause and implement permanent fixes that eliminate recurrence
  • Build and sustain commissioning standards, acceptance test protocols, and runbooks that enable distributed site teams to execute independently without centralized support
  • Direct integrated systems testing, functional acceptance testing, and live cutover on site, resolving integration failures before they delay handover
  • Establish and enforce controls reliability standards across the portfolio: alarm rationalization, control loop optimization, redundancy validation, and failover testing

Who We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Hands-on experience leading end-to-end field deployment and commissioning of controls systems in industrial or mission-critical facilities
  • Demonstrated expertise commissioning and troubleshooting PLCs, SCADA systems, and HMIs on major platforms such as Rockwell, Siemens, Ignition, or equivalent in live operational environments
  • Track record developing commissioning standards, acceptance procedures, and reliability documentation that function across multiple sites and portfolios
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve control system failures and integration issues in live or commissioning-phase infrastructure under time pressure
  • Experience mentoring controls engineers in the field and building their independent commissioning capability
  • Availability to travel to deployment and operational sites 50–70% of the time
  • Bonus qualifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license; data center BMS/EPMS experience with chilled water systems, HVAC, power monitoring, and data hall environmental controls; experience leading commissioning programs across multiple concurrent sites; familiarity with CMMS platforms, ISA-18.2 alarm management protocols, and IEC 62443 control system security frameworks; experience with controls virtualization, remote monitoring infrastructure, and automated diagnostics
