Forward Deployed ML/AI Engineer

As a Forward Deployed ML/AI Engineer in a full-time position at Factored in the United States, you'll manage the complete lifecycle of intelligent systems—from capturing business requirements and engineering data pipelines through model training, optimization, and deployment at scale.

About the Role

This position sits at the intersection of advanced machine learning research and production software engineering. The work spans both classical machine learning—gradient boosting, ensemble methods, regression—and cutting-edge generative AI including large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, and autonomous agents. You'll design scalable data pipelines, optimize model inference, architect robust APIs, and ensure AI capabilities deliver measurable business value to customers.

Your Responsibilities

• Translate strategic business priorities into clear technical specifications while working across product, operations, and business teams to align on outcomes
• Partner with customer leadership to define core problems, establish success metrics, and structure ambiguous challenges into executable technical roadmaps
• Engineer full-stack AI applications integrating multiple model types, from design through production deployment and continuous optimization
• Design data pipelines, feature engineering layers, and scalable APIs that efficiently serve predictions in real-world conditions at scale
• Establish production monitoring, versioning, and improvement processes that maintain model performance and detect degradation
• Upskill customer teams on machine learning fundamentals and best practices, ensuring organizations can independently maintain and evolve systems

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 6 years of experience building, deploying, and maintaining machine learning systems in production environments
• At least 3 years of direct customer engagement, working with diverse stakeholders in technical and non-technical roles
• Strong foundation in both classical algorithms (scikit-learn, XGBoost) and generative AI architectures (LLMs, vector databases, retrieval systems)
• Solid Python development skills with FastAPI or Flask backend experience and Streamlit familiarity for interactive applications
• Hands-on experience containerizing models with Docker and implementing CI/CD workflows
• Demonstrated ability to translate business challenges into technical solutions while communicating trade-offs to leadership teams
• Working knowledge of experiment tracking tools (MLflow, Weights & Biases) and cloud ML platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Experience with Databricks, SQL databases, and foundational data engineering concepts; model optimization and autonomous agents are valuable
