Pixlr Group is seeking an experienced Manager, Data Engineer to lead and expand our data engineering capabilities across the organisation. Based in Bandar Sunway, Selangor, Malaysia, this full-time role offers the opportunity to architect scalable data solutions whilst mentoring a talented engineering team.
What This Role Involves
As Manager, Data Engineer at Pixlr Group, you'll drive the vision and execution of our data infrastructure, pipelines, and analytical platforms. You'll balance hands-on technical leadership with strategic oversight, ensuring our data systems empower business decisions and support platform growth. This role requires someone who can design robust solutions, build and develop high-performing teams, and collaborate across product, engineering, and analytics to deliver measurable impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering technical growth and maintaining high performance standards
- Design, build, and optimise data pipelines, ETL processes, and data warehouse architectures
- Establish data governance frameworks, quality standards, and security protocols across systems
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to define data requirements and technical roadmaps
- Oversee infrastructure scaling, performance tuning, and cost optimisation initiatives
- Review code and engineering practices, ensuring adherence to quality and maintainability standards
- Identify and lead initiatives to reduce technical debt and improve system reliability
Requirements
- 5+ years of data engineering experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or senior technical role
- Proven expertise building and scaling data pipelines, warehouses, or data lake solutions
- Strong proficiency in SQL and one or more programming languages (Python, Scala, or Java)
- Hands-on experience with modern data platforms (Spark, Kafka, Airflow, or cloud data services)
- Demonstrated ability to build, develop, and lead engineering teams effectively
- Clear communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences
- Strong analytical mindset and commitment to data quality and system reliability
