Backend Team Lead (Ruby on Rails)

We're hiring a Backend Team Lead (Ruby on Rails) for Pixelogic Media Partners, LLC to lead our server-side engineering efforts from Colombia. In this contract remote role, you'll architect scalable solutions, mentor developers, and drive technical decisions across our Ruby on Rails platform.

What This Role Involves

You'll own the design and delivery of backend systems that power our media technology. Working across the full stack of backend infrastructure—from application architecture to database optimization—you'll build and guide a team of engineers while remaining hands-on in implementation. This role blends technical leadership with strategic architecture decisions that directly impact platform reliability and team capability.

Responsibilities

• Lead the backend engineering team through technical design, code review, and professional development
• Design and build scalable Ruby on Rails applications supporting high-volume media workloads
• Architect backend systems, REST APIs, and database schemas for performance and maintainability
• Partner with product and frontend teams to define technical requirements and delivery scope
• Establish practices for testing, continuous integration, and production monitoring
• Address performance bottlenecks and reduce technical debt in existing systems

Who We're Looking For

• 5+ years of backend development experience with proven expertise in Ruby on Rails
• Demonstrated success leading engineers or mentoring senior developers
• Strong foundation in relational databases, caching, and API design patterns
• Working knowledge of cloud platforms, containerization, and deployment automation
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and lead decisions through consensus
• Background in media, publishing, or content platforms preferred
