Cloud Engineer Principal

General Dynamics Information Technology seeks an accomplished Cloud Engineer Principal to join our team across the United States. In this full-time role, you will architect, deploy, and maintain enterprise-scale cloud infrastructure while ensuring mission-critical security and operational resilience.

About the Role

As a Principal Cloud Engineer at GDIT, you'll lead the design and evolution of sophisticated multi-tenant cloud platforms that enable government and defense operations. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic infrastructure planning, allowing you to work across engineering teams, operations groups, and external customer organizations to shape cloud strategy and oversee large-scale buildouts. You'll be responsible for both immediate technical execution and long-term platform sustainability, collaborating with diverse stakeholders to solve complex infrastructure challenges while maintaining unwavering focus on security, performance, and mission continuity.

Your Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and deploy cloud solutions leveraging AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud platforms
• Safeguard system security and integrity through proactive monitoring and control implementation across cloud environments
• Create and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and institutional knowledge resources
• Develop automation capabilities and infrastructure-as-code solutions using Bash, PowerShell, and Python
• Expand and maintain expertise in cloud platform capabilities and infrastructure technologies
• Optimize cloud system performance through continuous analysis, monitoring, and resource tuning
• Lead cross-functional collaboration with engineering teams and customer organizations to develop infrastructure strategies and guide implementation efforts
• Assess and resolve technical escalations with data-driven recommendations and actionable solutions

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in cloud engineering and operations
• Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
• Proficiency in Linux and Windows Server administration
• Programming and scripting capability in Bash, PowerShell, and Python
• Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to present technical information to audiences across all organizational levels
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret or higher security clearance
• Current U.S. citizenship required
• Technical certification, degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience preferred
