Automation Engineer (gn) – 40 Std, (hybrid) (München)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential technology client in München seeking an Automation Engineer to build and maintain sophisticated workflow automation systems.

You will:

• Build and operate n8n-based automations connecting CRM, customer support tools, email, and calendar systems into seamless workflows—including AI-assisted ticket classification, intelligent escalation routing, and automated notifications for critical events
• Develop automation logic and workflow rules within support tools, ensuring escalation models are technically sound and data synchronizes reliably across systems
• Integrate AI components into automations where they deliver genuine time savings and value, while maintaining data privacy and minimization principles—determining which data may be transmitted to models is part of good design
• Build with security and quality consciousness rather than "ship and pray"—new flows are tested inactive first, validated with realistic test cases, and equipped with deduplication logic, fallbacks, and error handling before going live
• Collaborate closely with Operations and Customer Success teams, translating operational pain points into concrete, robust automations while communicating proactively and transparently about flow status and timelines
• Leverage AI tools like Claude or Cursor as productivity multipliers to build faster, prototype new solutions, and implement capabilities that might not otherwise be feasible

What We're Looking For

• Required: Experience with workflow automation platforms (ideally n8n, Zapier, or Make) or backend development background with strong focus on APIs and system integrations
• Proficiency with REST APIs and webhooks; ability to read and debug JSON payloads efficiently and quickly diagnose integration flow issues
• Solid knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript or Python for developing custom code nodes when needed
• Good instinct for robustly integrating AI components like classification or text generation into production workflows, while understanding automation limitations and which decisions should remain human-driven
• Structured and security-conscious work approach: you think about test cases before activation, fallbacks for error scenarios, and maintainability so others can understand and maintain your flows
• Proactive, clear communication—even when timelines extend or things don't go as planned; Operations and Customer Success can rely on you as a dependable partner
• Comfortable using AI tools like Claude and Cursor as productivity boosters to work faster, explore new solutions, and achieve better results
• Very good German and English skills (minimum C1 level)
• Nice to have: Experience with Zoho ecosystem (CRM, Desk); Deluge scripting knowledge is not required—willingness to learn independently is more important
