Senior Platform Engineer – Kubernetes & GitOps (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential cloud infrastructure organization seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join their expanding team in Cologne. In this role, you will:

• Build and maintain the framework for deploying cloud packages on an on-premises cloud platform, from conception through automation to ongoing operations
• Develop and enhance Kubernetes infrastructure and implement GitOps workflows using tools like FluxCD
• Design and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Ansible and Terraform rather than manual configuration
• Analyze systems to identify root causes and derive necessary improvements when requirements are unclear
• Onboard new teams to the platform and help them become productive with the deployment framework
• Work in an environment where security and high automation standards are paramount
• Participate in on-call rotation to support production systems

What We're Looking For

Our client needs someone with deep technical expertise and a collaborative mindset:

• Strong Linux system administration skills including kernel internals and practical experience with cloud platforms, ideally OpenStack including provisioning and infrastructure operations
• Daily experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Ansible, plus scripting and automation with Python, Bash, and Go
• Hands-on experience building and operating Kubernetes clusters from scratch—not just using managed services—including installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting. Container and GitOps workflow experience is a strong plus
• Proven track record building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
• Knowledge of modern observability and monitoring stacks for metrics, logs, and traces, such as Prometheus and Grafana
• Foundational understanding of IT security including IAM, secrets management, hardening, and compliance
• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts: CAP theorem, consensus algorithms, and fault tolerance
• Structured troubleshooting approach, adaptability to new technologies, and commitment to thorough documentation
• DevOps mindset with enthusiasm for product team collaboration, ownership, blameless culture, clear communication, and continuous improvement
