About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential education technology organization in Germany that is building innovative learning platforms. Our talent team is searching for an experienced Software Engineer / ML Engineer to join their AI & Learning Design division on a fully remote basis within Germany.

This role focuses on backend development, infrastructure, and sustainable software architecture for production learning applications. You'll work with machine learning, LLMs, and data-driven features in a pragmatic, user-centered way. We're seeking candidates with proven project experience delivering real-world solutions, not purely academic backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve the learning platform in close collaboration with the Product Owner and development team
• Own the technical development and expansion of the platform architecture
• Drive technical implementation of platform enhancement requests
• Collaborate professionally with IT operations and all stakeholders necessary for software deployment
• Take responsibility for technology stack decisions and ongoing technical leadership

What We're Looking For

Professional Background:

• Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience
• Track record of multiple productively deployed applications or platforms
• Ideally, experience with LLM-based product features, prompting, retrieval systems, or multi-stage AI workflows
• Software development experience from before the current GenAI era, demonstrating strong architecture and maintainability principles

Technical Skills:

• Strong proficiency in Python
• Solid backend development experience with frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, Django, FastAPI, or similar
• Hands-on experience with cloud and infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Terraform, AWS, or Azure
• Proven practice implementing ML, NLP, or data-driven applications (classification, RAG, embeddings, pipelines, model integration)
• Experience in complex domains such as education, knowledge management, healthcare, data platforms, or regulated environments is desirable

Working Style:

• Independent, structured approach with high quality standards
• Strong comprehension and clear communication with teams and business stakeholders
• Experience in technical leadership, mentoring, architecture decisions, or close collaboration with Product Owners
• Excellent German and English language skills for effective communication
