Director, European Controller

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential cloud infrastructure organization in their search for a Director, European Controller based in London. Our client is experiencing significant growth and needs a senior financial leader to oversee international accounting operations across multiple jurisdictions outside the United States.

This is a strategic role reporting into the Chief Accounting Officer organization, where you'll lead statutory reporting, local compliance, and international tax for a rapidly expanding technology company. You'll be the senior-most accounting professional responsible for maintaining financial integrity across all non-US entities.

Responsibilities

• Lead preparation, review, and timely filing of foreign statutory financial statements across all international subsidiaries
• Manage reconciliation processes from US GAAP to local statutory standards (IFRS or local GAAP)
• Partner with the Tax department to ensure full compliance with international direct and indirect tax laws (VAT, GST, CIT)
• Establish and maintain a world-class internal control environment (SOX-aligned) across all international entities
• Lead remediation activities for any identified control gaps and ensure consistent application of global accounting policies
• Manage global shared services or regional accounting teams, ensuring high-quality monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Act as primary point of contact for external and internal auditors for all international statutory audits
• Support M&A activity by leading financial integration of new international entities, including entity creation, local registrations, and system implementations

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA, CA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred
• 12+ years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years leading international operations
• Technical expertise in diverse accounting areas, including US GAAP to IFRS conversion
• Strong understanding of international tax regimes and statutory audit requirements across multiple jurisdictions
• Proficiency in understanding global expansion requirements
• Proven track record managing remote, cross-functional, and culturally diverse teams
• Proficient in using ERP solutions with secondary or non-leading ledgers

Preferred:

• Experience in cloud or technology sectors with significant capital expenditure accounting
• Experience leading teams through ambiguity, building accounting processes, systems, and controls to support complex transactions
• Expertise in managing end-to-end accounting close processes, SOX compliance, and audit readiness
• Curious mindset focused on optimizing operations and enhancing cross-functional collaboration

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: £111,000 to £148,000

Compensation will be determined based on your experience, qualifications, and market alignment. Our client also offers discretionary bonuses, equity awards, and a comprehensive benefits package including family-level medical and dental insurance, generous pension contributions, life assurance, critical illness cover, and tuition reimbursement.
