Linguist – Japanese – Remote

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential language technology organization in their search for experienced Japanese linguists specializing in financial translation. This is a remote contractor opportunity for senior linguists with deep expertise in finance-specific terminology and regulatory documentation.

Our client prioritizes accuracy and consistency in areas such as investment documentation, compliance materials, and regulatory content where precision is critical.

Responsibilities

• Translate complex financial content between English and Japanese with exceptional accuracy and terminological consistency
• Ensure translations align with market-specific financial systems, terminology, and formatting conventions
• Apply rigorous quality standards to deliver precise, unambiguous content where accuracy is essential
• Collaborate with production and quality teams to meet client requirements and deadlines
• Follow terminology and reference materials precisely

What We're Looking For

• Native-level proficiency in Japanese
• A graduate qualification in translation, linguistics, or language studies, OR
• A graduate qualification in another field plus 2 years of full-time professional translation experience, OR
• 5 years of full-time professional translation experience
• Proven professional experience in translation and localization within the financial domain
• Strong understanding of financial terminology and regulatory documentation
• Ability to maintain high quality standards with attention to detail

Important considerations: This is a contractor role with fluctuating project availability, making it better suited as supplemental income rather than a primary income source. Most tasks require a minimum of 2 hours per day or 10 hours per week. You will be responsible for your own tax obligations as an independent contractor.
