About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential defense technology client in Munich seeking a Tactical Data Link Expert to join their command and control software team. This is a critical role supporting the integration of military communication systems into unmanned platforms and ground control environments deployed in active operational settings.

Our client is building mission-critical C2 capabilities that connect operators to autonomous systems in real time. You'll work in a fast-paced, senior engineering environment where every system you touch goes directly into the hands of field operators. This role requires someone who understands the constraints of low-bandwidth networks, air-gapped devices, and high-stakes decision loops.

Responsibilities

• Support integration of tactical data link capabilities including Link 16, Link 22, SATCOM, and other military communication systems into unmanned platforms and ground control station environments
• Define communication concepts that enable reliable data exchange between unmanned systems, ground control setups, command centers, allied platforms, and external mission systems
• Translate operational and military communication requirements into technical integration requirements, interface definitions, and test specifications
• Collaborate with engineering, software, network, RF, modem, antenna, and ground control teams to align interfaces, protocols, data flows, and integration constraints
• Support concepts and integration activities for SATCOM, long-range communication paths, and beyond-line-of-sight connectivity options
• Plan and support lab tests, field tests, interoperability checks, and validation activities for tactical data link and communication setups
• Contribute to secure, robust, and mission-ready communication architectures considering availability, latency, data integrity, authentication, and operational constraints
• Coordinate with external suppliers, partners, military stakeholders, and internal teams to assess data link options and technical feasibility
• Document data link concepts, interface assumptions, configuration settings, integration dependencies, test results, and operational setup recommendations

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Approximately 5 years of professional experience in tactical communications, military data links, SATCOM, RF systems, communication engineering, systems engineering, or related technical field
• Practical understanding of military data link technologies such as Link 16, Link 22, SATCOM, or comparable tactical communication systems
• Ability to understand complex communication architectures involving platforms, radios, antennas, modems, networks, command systems, software interfaces, and operational workflows
• Strong understanding of system interoperability, interface definition, and validation testing
• Ability to translate requirements between operational users, engineering teams, software developers, RF specialists, suppliers, and program stakeholders
• Experience supporting technical tests, integration trials, validation activities, or operational demonstrations with structured documentation
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to identify communication issues, integration gaps, configuration problems, and practical solutions
• Solid English skills required; German skills for technical communication and documentation are a plus
• Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and communicate clearly in fast-moving engineering environments
• Ability to obtain appropriate security clearance required for the position

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in defense, military communications, command-and-control systems, aerospace, naval systems, UAVs, or mission-critical operational environments
• Prior exposure to NATO communication standards, tactical networks, joint fires, air defense, command posts, or battlefield management systems
• Experience with SATCOM terminals, tactical radios, MANET, IP-based tactical networks, or professional communication equipment
• Experience integrating unmanned systems into wider military communication architectures
• Understanding of network security, encryption concepts, authentication, routing, IP networking, and secure data exchange
