Technology Lead, Electronics and Software – Defence and Security

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential defence and security consultancy seeking a Technology Lead for their Systems and Technology team. In this role, you will take technical ownership of complex product development projects serving UK government clients, working through the full development lifecycle from early concept through prototype to production introduction.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Leading technical delivery of multi-disciplinary projects with significant research and development content, solving complex technical challenges across distributed teams
• Capturing technical product requirements and facilitating system-level discussions that require broad technical expertise
• Running client meetings and presenting technical concepts to stakeholders across all disciplines to ensure project success
• Supporting project managers in developing proposals that meet government clients' commercial and technical requirements
• Collaborating with business development teams to understand and address clients' technical needs

This position is based in Cambridge, UK, with a hybrid working model. Due to the nature of UK government work, you will spend the majority of your time in the office. Some domestic UK travel will be required.

What We're Looking For

You must hold a degree in engineering or a relevant scientific discipline such as Electronics, Software, Physics, Chemistry, or Sensing Systems, with hands-on experience contributing to medium or large technical product development projects within a team environment.

Essential technical skills in one or more of:

• High-speed and/or RF electronics design
• Embedded software development
• FPGA development

Required background knowledge:

• Linux systems fundamentals
• Networking basics
• Computer security principles
• Strong time management, written and verbal communication, and organisational skills

Highly valued experience:

• UK Government security clearance (current or willingness to obtain)
• New product introduction and design for manufacture experience
• Previous work in consulting or fee-for-service organisations
• Knowledge of best practices in product and system development
• Networks within the UK defence and security innovation ecosystem, including MOD, DSTL, Defence Innovation Unit, and Government departments

Security requirements: Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check, be willing to undertake UK government security clearance, and must be a UK passport holder.
