Forward Deployed AI Engineer Energy (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential client in the energy sector who is building an AI platform to automate critical business processes. As a Forward Deployed AI Engineer, you will own AI use cases from discovery through production deployment, working directly with energy utilities and municipal providers.

Your day-to-day includes:

• Conducting workshops and stakeholder interviews to understand complex processes and domain knowledge
• Translating requirements into technical specifications and agent blueprints
• Building AI agents using LLMs, RAG, tool use/function calling, and agent orchestration
• Preparing documents, data, and knowledge bases for retrieval systems
• Developing working prototypes within days and iterating based on user feedback
• Creating golden question sets, test datasets, and regression tests for evaluation
• Analyzing feedback and continuously improving agent performance
• Communicating technical possibilities and constraints clearly to stakeholders
• Contributing reusable components back to the platform team

What We're Looking For

Must-Have Skills:

• 1–2 years minimum of hands-on GenAI engineering experience
• Proven experience with LLM applications, RAG, prompt engineering, tool use, and agent orchestration
• Production-level Python proficiency
• Experience evaluating GenAI applications using test sets, golden questions, or regression testing
• Understanding of chunking strategies, retrieval methods, metadata, and knowledge structures
• Strong client-facing skills and ability to independently structure ambiguous requirements
• High ownership mindset and pragmatic approach to changing requirements
• Business-fluent German language skills

Our client values built applications over certifications. Personal projects, GitHub repositories, or other work samples are highly valued during evaluation.

Nice-to-Have:

• Energy sector knowledge (market communication, data exchange formats, utility systems)
• BPMN or comparable process modeling experience
• GCP, Docker, and CI/CD experience
• Knowledge graphs or structured knowledge representation
• Background in consulting or customer-facing technical roles

We are considering both mid-level and senior profiles. At mid-level, you will own complete use cases from discovery to go-live. At senior level, you will additionally develop standards and blueprints, engage with executive stakeholders, and help scale the forward deployment model.
