Engineering Manager, ML Security and Research

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential cybersecurity organization that builds ML-powered security products used by category leaders across multiple industries. Our client operates with small, high-agency teams distributed globally, placing AI/ML at the core of their product strategy.

As an Engineering Manager for ML Security and Research, you will lead a team building security products including bot detection, agent detection, and fraud prevention systems. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll execute roadmaps, drive product iteration, and grow the team while collaborating with research, product, and technical leads. While you won't code daily, you'll review code and pull requests, act as a tech lead when needed, and mentor engineers in your areas of expertise.

Responsibilities

• Lead ML Security team execution and delivery, collaborating with cross-functional partners
• Make architectural and technical decisions while staying hands-on with code reviews and system design
• Mentor team members, ensuring their professional growth and engagement
• Build ML solutions from initial data exploration through production deployment and ongoing monitoring
• Review and approve all code contributions, ensuring reliability and correctness
• Prioritize and coordinate engineering team workstreams

What We're Looking For

• Strong ML/data science or engineering background with proven production ML experience
• Engineering management and/or tech lead experience with ability to engage engineers and researchers on technical topics
• Expertise in high-availability systems, Python, ML pipelines, and distributed systems
• Experience with MLOps, ML systems, and large-scale internet-facing applications
• Strong communication skills across both technical and non-technical audiences
• Familiarity with coding using AI agents (experience will be discussed during interviews)
• Experience with systems impacting large user bases at scale
