Staff Software Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization in their search for a Staff Software Engineer to join their distributed rendering platform team. This is a fully remote position open to candidates across EMEA.

Our client operates at significant scale, serving billions of web pages globally. As a Staff Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping technical direction, coaching engineering teams, and driving architectural evolution across their platform. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who elevates teams through context, guidance, and example.

Responsibilities

• Lead by doing: contribute to core systems while modeling excellence in code quality, testing, and design
• Drive cross-team architectural initiatives that move systems toward simplicity, scalability, and testability
• Coach and mentor engineers at all levels through pairing, design reviews, and hands-on guidance in extreme programming practices
• Design elegant solutions to deep technical challenges in performance, reliability, and distributed rendering
• Identify risks early, resolve systemic bottlenecks, and establish defaults that enable teams to move quickly and confidently
• Champion sustainable quality practices including TDD, pair programming, and continuous delivery
• Partner with product and leadership to balance short-term delivery with long-term technical health
• Refine tooling, automation, and engineering practices that raise effectiveness across the organization
• Lead design discussions that impact multiple services and teams
• Create clarity across teams, helping others understand both what is being built and why

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of experience designing and shipping complex, distributed systems
• Proven track record leading large-scale technical initiatives that simplified and strengthened core systems
• Deep technical expertise in modern backend development, ideally in TypeScript/Node.js or Golang
• Familiarity with AWS and cloud-native infrastructure
• Systems thinking ability: you see across layers of the stack and connect product goals with technical architecture
• Coaching mindset: you elevate others through context, guidance, and example
• Strategic clarity: you balance short-term priorities with long-term sustainability and technical health
• Strong communication skills: you make complex ideas clear to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Bias for continuous improvement of systems, teams, and practices

Bonus qualifications: Experience in SEO, web performance, or large-scale rendering infrastructure is valued, though curiosity and adaptability are equally important.

Pay
