Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential robotics company seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to deploy, customize, and optimize advanced robotic automation solutions directly with international customers. Based in Munich, Bavaria, you will serve as a trusted technical partner, translating customer challenges into scalable, production-ready applications.
Your day-to-day work will include:
- Deploying, integrating, and commissioning complex robotic systems for industrial automation and mobile manipulation applications
- Customizing and extending robotic workcell automation frameworks by implementing customer-specific features, integrations, and workflows
- Integrating and fine-tuning AI models for robotic applications, including Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models, end-to-end learned policies, and machine learning components
- Working closely with customers to understand technical requirements and translate them into robust software solutions
- Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving software and system integration issues both remotely and on-site
- Traveling to international customer sites for workshops, deployments, training, and technical support (up to 40% travel)
What We're Looking For
Essential qualifications:
- Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, AI, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Minimum of four years of professional experience in robotics, AI, industrial automation, or software engineering
- Hands-on experience with robot arms and other robotic hardware (cameras, AGVs, grippers, sensors, etc.)
- Intermediate programming skills in C++ and Python
- Practical experience in integrating and programming robotic applications
- Experience working in Linux environments
- Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt quickly in customer environments
- Fluency in English
Beneficial skills:
- Experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow), modern AI models (e.g., SAM, YOLO, GraspNET), or Vision-Language(-Action) models
- Knowledge of control theory for robotics
- Experience with computer vision (e.g., OpenCV, PCL)
- Experience deploying and optimizing robotics applications on NVIDIA embedded platforms (e.g., Jetson Orin, AGX, Xavier)
- Familiarity with PLC programming
- Practical experience with CAD software
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherCAT, CAN, OPC UA, Modbus)
- Knowledge of functional safety standards
