Sr. Backend Engineer (Python, AWS)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential BPO organization seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (Python, AWS) to join their engineering team. This is a full-time remote position based in the Philippines, working evenings Manila time (7pm - 4am MNL, Monday-Friday). Company equipment will be provided.

In this role, you'll design and build scalable backend systems and cloud-native services that power internal products and customer-facing solutions. You'll own system architecture and integration design across multiple internal and external systems, translate business requirements into reliable technical solutions, and provide technical mentorship to other engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend applications and services using Python
• Design system architectures that integrate multiple internal and third-party systems
• Decompose complex business problems into well-defined services with clear ownership and boundaries
• Design and build REST APIs and backend services
• Design robust domain models, reusable components, and maintainable software abstractions
• Build reliable data ingestion and transformation pipelines
• Design integration patterns that ensure reliable communication between systems, including error handling, retries, and data consistency
• Develop cloud-native applications using AWS services
• Troubleshoot production issues across application and cloud infrastructure layers
• Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and code reviews
• Mentor engineers by promoting sound software design and engineering best practices
• Collaborate closely with Product, Data, AI, and Engineering teams

What We're Looking For

• Minimum of five (5) years of professional software engineering experience, with strong experience developing backend applications using Python
• Strong understanding of software architecture and distributed system design, including designing scalable systems with well-defined service boundaries
• Experience designing domain models that accurately represent complex business processes
• Experience integrating multiple APIs and third-party systems, and designing and building REST APIs
• Strong understanding of integration architecture, including data contracts, synchronization strategies, retries, and fault tolerance
• Experience building or supporting data ingestion and transformation pipelines, with an understanding of data modeling and mapping concepts
• Experience with AWS cloud services, ideally including serverless application development (e.g., Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch)
• Experience designing event-driven or asynchronous processing workflows
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical direction
