Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential academic research institution in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Our client is seeking a Master 2 research intern to develop and implement advanced nonlinear optical characterization techniques for neuromorphic electronic devices.
In this 6-month internship, you will:
- Develop time-resolved second harmonic generation microscopy instrumentation to record spatiotemporal movement of charged species (ions and electrons/holes) in organic electrochemical transistors
- Fabricate organic electrochemical transistor (OECT) devices in a microelectronics cleanroom environment with technical support
- Perform in-situ and operando characterization of mixed ionic-electronic polymer conductors
- Map electronic mobilities within OECT channels using the developed nonlinear optics experiments
- Conduct electrical and electrochemical characterizations to establish key figures of merit
- Analyze data to establish engineering design rules for polymer materials used in neuromorphic circuits
- Contribute to foundational knowledge for organic electronics-based artificial intelligence applications
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Master 2 program or 3rd year engineering degree in Optical Techniques and Instrumentation
- Strong foundation in Physics, Materials Science, or Optoelectronics through academic training and/or professional experience
- Technical and scientific mastery of optics
- Proficiency with electronic instrumentation (sCMOS cameras, oscilloscopes, signal generators, delay generators, SMU)
- Experience with image analysis software and programming (Python preferred)
- English proficiency (reading and writing required; oral communication assessed during interview)
- Interest in continuing to a doctoral program following the internship (this is a research-track position)
Advantageous experience:
- Previous internships involving nonlinear optics and/or microscopy
- Scientific camera image analysis experience
Essential qualities:
- Aptitude for interdisciplinary work and cross-disciplinary collaboration
- Autonomy and initiative
- Interest in teamwork and ability to build research projects collaboratively
- Strong oral and written communication skills
