Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential research institution in Brest, Brittany, France, seeking a Research Engineer or Post-Doctoral Researcher for the Searenity project. This project addresses maritime sustainability by developing autonomous underwater drone technology to combat biofouling on ship hulls during navigation.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• Designing innovative magnetic attraction systems to secure robotic devices to ferromagnetic surfaces
• Participating in the conception, fabrication, and assembly of complete magnetic systems, subsystems, and associated test benches
• Performing numerical simulations of magnetic device performance, including attraction capacity and resistance to forward motion
• Contributing to optimization loops and in-situ testing
• Developing multiphysics attraction models accounting for magnetic/contact deformation coupling
• Preparing technical publications for specialized journals
• Actively sharing and acquiring new competencies within the research team
• Optionally delivering up to 64 hours of annual teaching if desired

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• PhD or Research Engineer qualification
• Expertise in multiphysics modeling, particularly magneto-mechanical systems
• Strong background in structural behavior modeling and simulation
• Experience designing mechanical and magnetic systems
• Ability to develop test protocols

Technical skills:

• Proficiency with CATIA
• Experience with NX Simcenter or Abaqus
• Python programming capability
• Excellent technical report writing skills

This is a 36-month fixed-term contract based in Brest, with a start date of either October 1, 2026, or February 1, 2027. The position is full-time with 25 days annual leave plus 18 RTT days.

Pay

Compensation will be determined based on relevant professional experience in equivalent-level positions.
