Engineering Lead (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential greentech organization in Berlin that is scaling rapidly. Our client is building an AI-powered operating system for integrated energy solutions, and we're looking for an Engineering Lead to shape critical product domains while leading and mentoring a team of engineers.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll own architectural decisions, drive long-term technical vision, and bridge engineering with product and operations. You'll work across backend systems, AI integration, and customer-facing applications while staying actively involved in code.

Responsibilities

• Own architectural decisions for your domain and establish long-term technical direction
• Lead, hire, and develop a team of engineers through coaching, code reviews, and continuous feedback
• Contribute directly to the codebase while balancing architectural and leadership duties
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Operations to align technical solutions with business objectives
• Make pragmatic build-vs-buy decisions and integrate AI agents where they deliver real value
• Drive operational excellence including observability, reliability, and incident response
• Mentor engineers through pairing sessions and clear technical guidance

What We're Looking For

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years in technical leadership roles at high-performance environments such as fast-scaling startups
• Proven end-to-end ownership from ideation through release
• Strong background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
• Deep system design and coding skills with proficiency in Go or similar languages
• Experience with event-driven architectures and distributed systems
• Fluency in spec-driven, AI-assisted development (e.g. Claude Code)
• Self-driven problem-solving mindset with minimal need for direction
• Fluent English (C1); German (B2)
• Experience with backend technologies, ML/Python tooling, modern frontend frameworks, and cloud infrastructure
