Langfuse – Senior Backend Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source observability platform that processes terabytes of AI tracing data daily. Our client serves Fortune 50 companies and has recently joined forces with a leading analytical database provider, creating unique technical opportunities for backend engineers who want to work at the intersection of high-scale data infrastructure and AI tooling.

This is a high-impact role where you'll own critical infrastructure that powers real-time analytics for production AI applications. You'll work directly with the analytical database internals, optimize data pipelines handling massive event volumes, and build the foundation for next-generation observability features.

Responsibilities

• Own and optimize the ingestion pipeline that processes massive volumes of tracing data, focusing on throughput, latency, reliability, and cost efficiency at every stage
• Design and optimize analytical database schemas, merge strategies, batch inserts, and queries that power dashboards and UI components
• Build infrastructure-heavy features including asynchronous post-processing systems, alerting at scale, client-code execution, and batch dataset operations
• Conduct load testing against production data to validate schema changes, migrations, and query optimizations before deployment
• Operate cloud infrastructure across multiple production environments and ensure seamless self-hosting experiences from single-container setups to enterprise deployments
• Collaborate with database engineering teams to leverage deep technical expertise on datastore internals
• Plan and implement infrastructure improvements to support 10x scale and emerging use cases like complex agent observability and real-time evaluation

What We're Looking For

• Strong backend engineering experience with genuine excitement about database internals, query optimization, and distributed systems
• Experience working with analytical databases, data pipelines, or high-throughput event processing systems
• Comfort reading and writing TypeScript and SQL in production environments
• Self-directed work style with strong opinions about technical priorities and implementation approaches
• Interest in open source software and genuine enjoyment discussing scaling challenges with technical users
• Ability to thrive in small, accountable teams where your output is highly visible
• Computer Science or quantitative degree preferred

Bonus qualifications: Experience with columnar analytical databases, observability infrastructure, or building data-intensive systems at scale. Founder background is a plus.
