Trainee lawyer / research assistant (Referendar)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential defense technology organization based in Munich that is seeking a trainee lawyer or research assistant (Referendar) to join their legal department. This is an excellent opportunity for legal professionals in their practical training phase who want to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment focused on security and defense.

This position requires a minimum commitment of three to six months and offers exposure to cutting-edge legal challenges in the defense sector, including public procurement, export control, corporate law, and compliance matters.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research on public procurement law, export control regulations, and corporate law matters
• Prepare materials for contract negotiations and draft contractual documents
• Develop compliance guidelines and documentation
• Collaborate with the legal department on various defense-focused legal topics
• Support legal project organization, tracking, and coordination activities
• Provide general legal support across multiple workstreams within the department

What We're Looking For

• First State Examination in Law (completed)
• Currently eligible to work as a Referendar in Germany
• Very strong English and German language skills (C1 level or higher in both)
• Genuine interest in startups, security, and the defense industry
• Eager to learn and contribute in a dynamic environment
• Strong communication skills and ability to work at pace
• Ownership mentality and proactive approach to problem-solving
• Available for a minimum of three to six months

Location: Munich, Bavaria, Germany – Hybrid work model with flexibility
