About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential research institution in France seeking a postdoctoral researcher to develop an open, modular system-level evaluation framework for emerging AI computing architectures. This role sits at the interface of computer architecture, accelerator design, performance modelling, and hardware-software codesign, with a focus on translating device and circuit characteristics into architectural insights for next-generation computing systems.

The position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge computing technologies including non-volatile memories, in-memory computing, silicon photonics, and heterogeneous chiplets, developing tools and methodologies that bridge low-level device physics with system-level performance for AI workloads.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement an extensible system-level evaluation framework for design space exploration and system-design-technology co-optimization of emerging computing architectures
• Develop parameterized architectural models that convert device, circuit, and array results into system-level performance projections
• Enable both bottom-up projection from technology choices to system performance and top-down constraint propagation from application targets to hardware requirements
• Create cross-layer models that expose bottlenecks, sensitivities, feasibility limits, and technology break-even points rather than isolated metrics
• Develop benchmarking flows and system-level Pareto analyses for AI accelerators across workloads spanning edge inference to transformer-inspired models
• Integrate and extend existing evaluation components with emphasis on openness, reproducibility, and reusability
• Produce design guidelines and decision-support tools for future research in emerging AI computing architectures

What We're Looking For

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline
• Strong background in several of: computer architecture and AI accelerators; performance, energy, and area modelling; design space exploration and multi-objective optimization; hardware-software co-design and workload mapping; emerging memories, compute-in-memory, or photonic computing
• Strong Python programming skills and sound software-engineering practices (essential)
• Experience with SystemC, C/C++, RISC-V simulation, QEMU, PyTorch/ONNX workload flows, or architecture simulators such as NeuroSim, CiMLoop/AccelForge, or Timeloop (highly valued)
• Familiarity with circuit-level modelling or EDA tools is an asset, though the primary focus is architectural and system-level research
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary research environment with national and European collaborations
