Vice President, Legal

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential SaaS organization in their search for a Vice President, Legal. This is the senior-most legal position within the company, reporting to the CFO and serving as the primary legal advisor to executive leadership. You will own the legal function end-to-end, leading a team while providing hands-on expertise in privacy law, enterprise contract negotiation, and intellectual property matters critical to a scaling technology platform.

This is a remote position for candidates based anywhere in the United States, with the exception of Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maine, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Responsibilities

• Lead and scale the legal function, setting strategic priorities and operational standards for the department
• Build, manage, and mentor the legal team, including hiring, workload planning, and professional development
• Serve as the primary authority on data privacy and security compliance (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and evolving international regimes), including policy creation and incident response
• Negotiate customer contracts including MSAs, order forms, DPAs, and enterprise procurement documents, balancing legal risk with business velocity
• Advise Product and Engineering teams on intellectual property matters: IP ownership, licensing, open-source considerations, and protection of proprietary technology
• Partner with Sales and Revenue Operations to develop contracting playbooks, standard terms, and approval thresholds that enable efficient deal flow
• Manage outside counsel relationships and legal spend across litigation, IP, and specialty practice areas
• Provide executive counsel on corporate governance, risk management, and compliance matters
• Oversee employment law matters in collaboration with People/HR, including policy review and workplace investigations
• Monitor regulatory and legislative developments affecting SaaS businesses, data privacy, and AI, translating changes into actionable business guidance
• Own contract lifecycle management processes and legal operations technology
• Support collections efforts in partnership with Finance, utilizing escalation procedures and legal remedies as appropriate
• Establish and track KPIs for the Legal department, driving continuous improvement including AI-driven workflow automation
• Support M&A activity, corporate transactions, and other strategic initiatives as they arise

What We're Looking For

• J.D. and active bar membership in good standing
• 10+ years of legal experience with substantial in-house tenure at a B2B SaaS or technology company, ideally with private equity backing
• Proven track record building, leading, and mentoring in-house legal teams and scaling legal functions
• Deep expertise in data privacy and security law, with hands-on experience designing privacy programs and navigating regulatory change
• Extensive experience negotiating and closing enterprise SaaS customer contracts, including MSAs, DPAs, and complex order forms
• Solid foundation in intellectual property law as applied to software products, including licensing and open-source considerations
• Experience advising executive leadership on governance, risk, and compliance
• Sound business judgment with ability to balance legal risk against commercial objectives
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and cross-functional influence skills
• Demonstrated ability to build and scale legal processes, policies, and operations in fast-growth environments

Location: Remote within the United States (excluding AK, DE, HI, LA, ME, NM, ND, OK, RI, VT, WA, WV, WY). You must be authorized to work in the U.S.; we cannot sponsor employment or scholastic visas at this time.

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: $180,000 - $215,000 annually, based on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
