(Senior) System Engineer (all genders) – Microsoft Infrastructure

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential public sector IT organization seeking a System Engineer to join their Microsoft infrastructure team in Mainz. In this role, you will:

• Implement, operate, and continuously develop Microsoft infrastructure environments
• Install, configure, administer, and migrate IT systems within Windows Server ecosystems
• Analyze technical requirements and develop appropriate solutions
• Execute changes, testing cycles, and troubleshooting procedures
• Participate in IT projects and take ownership of technical work packages
• Optimize existing infrastructure and support the introduction of new technologies
• Create and maintain technical documentation, concepts, and operational materials
• Support rollouts and ongoing operations
• Coordinate technical tasks and align with internal teams and stakeholders
• Ensure quality standards, thorough documentation, and sustainable operations
• For senior profiles: Design and architect IT solutions and system architectures

What We're Looking For

Our client offers three experience levels (Junior, Mid-Level, Senior), so you do not need to meet every requirement listed. We're seeking candidates whose profile and experience align with one of these levels:

• Practical experience ranging from foundational to extensive expertise in Microsoft environments or comparable infrastructure technologies (Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, virtualization)
• Knowledge of automation and scripting, particularly PowerShell, as well as monitoring, backup, and high-availability concepts
• Experience with installation, configuration, administration, and operations of IT systems
• Interest in advancing modern Microsoft infrastructures and tackling complex technical challenges
• Familiarity with IT processes, ideally ITIL frameworks
• Structured, solution-oriented work approach with the ability to handle technical tasks independently
• Strong analytical skills and enthusiasm for solving complex problems
• Experience creating technical concepts and documentation
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Very good German language skills and good English proficiency
• For experienced profiles: Background in complex IT projects, architecture work, consulting, or technical project management
• Ability to translate requirements into viable technical solutions and architectures
• Willingness to undergo security clearance (SÜ2)
