About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing climate-tech organization based in Berlin that is making a measurable impact on industrial decarbonization. Our client operates machine-learning software in production environments across Europe, and they need a Backend Engineer who can own the data systems that power their platform.

This is a hands-on backend role focused on data ingestion, API design, and production systems. You'll work directly with external partners and customers, turning messy real-world data into clean inputs for ML models—and you'll deploy, monitor, and maintain everything you build.

Responsibilities

  • Own and improve data ingestion systems that process industrial plant data from external partners
  • Build and maintain APIs that transform strict data requirements into flexible, AI-powered ingestion workflows
  • Deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot production systems in a cloud environment, diagnosing issues when upstream data changes unexpectedly
  • Investigate data anomalies and communicate findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Design and maintain backend APIs and PostgreSQL databases that support production applications
  • Collaborate directly with customers, sales, and customer success teams—translating technical concepts into plain language
  • Work closely with product teams on backend features and infrastructure improvements

What We're Looking For

Must-haves:

  • Production experience deploying Python applications
  • Hands-on experience deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting production systems in cloud environments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
  • Comfort working directly with customers and enterprise teams—patient, clear, and professional
  • Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar codebases and contribute early
  • Openness to using AI tools responsibly to augment your work
  • Valid EU work authorization (visa sponsorship not available)

Nice-to-haves:

  • Exposure to machine learning or data pipeline projects
  • Experience with FastAPI, Flask, or Django
  • PostgreSQL or similar SQL database experience
  • Background designing or maintaining third-party integrations or partner systems

Tech environment: Python throughout (FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, pydantic, pytest), PostgreSQL, AWS on Kubernetes, React/TypeScript frontend.

Location: Berlin Mitte office, hybrid work model (up to 2 days remote per week).
