About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential geospatial technology organization seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their distributed platform engineering teams in Berlin. Our client operates cutting-edge systems that enable customers to access, analyze, and derive insights from large-scale imagery datasets and derived analytical products.

This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in the Berlin office. The position offers the opportunity to work on high-performance, cloud-native systems serving global customers across commercial, environmental, and research sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Build, deploy, and maintain performant distributed services and highly-available APIs using Go, Java, and/or Python with a strong focus on customer experience
  • Collaborate with engineers and product managers across multiple cross-functional teams to align product and engineering objectives
  • Write high-quality, maintainable, observable, and well-documented production code
  • Participate in code reviews to uphold code quality standards
  • Leverage AI tooling throughout the development lifecycle while maintaining the same quality bar as hand-written code
  • Own the operational excellence of APIs and services by embracing Site Reliability Engineering culture, including performance measurement, load testing, alerting, dashboards, and runbooks
  • Respond to incidents and participate in on-call rotation supporting external and internal services
  • Continuously learn and grow as a developer while making positive impacts on products and customers

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

  • 6+ years of software development experience in production environments, preferably with Python, Java, and/or Go
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geosciences, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Solid understanding of software engineering best practices and development methodologies
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills with strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Comfortable writing engineering design proposals and driving collaborative decisions
  • Familiarity with GCP or AWS cloud platforms
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and independently, navigate ambiguous problem spaces, and take calculated risks
  • Experience with diverse data storage systems including relational databases, document stores, and key-value stores
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
  • Experience with Git, large codebases, merge request reviews, and complex CI/CD pipelines
  • Comfortable working with Docker containers
  • Strong intuition about when AI is useful in software development

Preferred qualifications:

  • Familiarity with geospatial concepts and standards (GeoTIFFs, GeoJSON, STAC)
  • Experience with remotely sensed products and associated metadata
  • Experience with observability platforms such as Grafana
