About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization in their search for a Principal AI/ML Scientist & Engineer to lead a growing team of Applied Scientists and AI/ML Engineers in London. This role is designed for a pragmatic "Builder-Scientist"—a technical leader who combines deep scientific rigor with a fundamental drive to iteratively ship data products that deliver real customer value.

You will lead the technical strategy for AI/ML-based solutions that extract value from both structured and unstructured data, bridging advanced research with production-grade systems. Your impact will be measured through technical leadership, leverage, and the tangible business outcomes you enable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of Applied Scientists and AI/ML Engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and scientific rigor
• Define and execute the technical strategy for AI/ML-based solutions focused on extracting actionable insights from structured and unstructured data
• Design and build intelligent systems including autonomous agentic workflows and real-time reasoning engines that execute business actions safely at scale
• Partner with platform teams to drive the overarching strategy for large language model operations (LLMOps), ensuring infrastructure supports efficient experimentation and robust deployment
• Apply deep scientific intuition to AI system design, optimizing models and data-intensive solutions for customer centricity and real-world performance
• Act as a technical authority across the AI/ML and data ecosystem, shaping the engineering roadmap and setting standards for modern AI stack utilization
• Serve as a high-impact individual contributor on critical systems, balancing hands-on building with effective delegation and team development

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of applied science or engineering experience with practical understanding of the full ML and AI lifecycle in high-scale production environments
• Proven ability to lead and scale technical teams, with experience mentoring senior talent and raising organizational technical standards
• Deep expertise in modern AI engineering concepts and tech stacks, including hands-on experience with agentic system orchestration (e.g., LangGraph), RAG architectures, and vector databases
• Strong scientific training combined with a builder's mindset; you prioritize shipping working, iterative solutions that solve real customer problems
• Proven track record of delivering customer and business value through AI/ML-based solutions at scale
• Broad exposure to ML, Deep Learning, and AI with understanding of practical trade-offs between different models and agentic frameworks
• Excellent product sense and business awareness, with ability to translate technical choices into tangible user improvements
• Ability to lead through influence and technical authority, partnering across teams to elevate collective technical standards
• Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), distributed systems, container orchestration, and data engineering (batch pipelines, feature stores, Kafka)
• Must already possess legal right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship
