Cofounder – Head of Risk & Actuarial

Responsibilities

Our client, a confidential fintech organization, is building an innovative income-share financing product for migrant workers in the EU. As a founding team member and Head of Risk & Actuarial, you will:

• Design and build underwriting models for borrowers without traditional credit bureau data, including default probability assessment, income trajectory modeling, and loss-given-default curves
• Establish income-share rates and repayment cap structures segmented by borrower cohort
• Conduct portfolio stress testing against macroeconomic shocks, default clustering scenarios, and income interruption events
• Structure warehouse debt facilities, including tranche sizing, loss triggers, and investor reporting frameworks
• Define the pathway to asset-backed securities (ABS) securitization at scale
• Lead regulatory classification efforts under BaFin and AFM consumer credit frameworks
• Co-own the company as part of the founding team

What We're Looking For

We are representing our client in the search for a strategic risk leader who brings:

• Part-qualified or fully qualified actuary designation (SOA, IFoA, or DAV) — or equivalent depth in structured credit, consumer lending, or quantitative risk management
• Hands-on experience building credit scorecards, probability of default (PD) models, loss-given-default (LGD) models, or pricing models in production environments
• Proven ability to underwrite thin-file or no-file borrowers; emerging-market or migrant lending experience is highly valued
• Working knowledge of structured finance mechanics including waterfalls, tranching, loss absorption structures, and warehouse facilities
• Founder mindset with a bias toward building new systems rather than maintaining existing ones
• Ability to work in Düsseldorf
