We are representing a confidential German HealthTech organization that is revolutionizing healthcare operations through technology. Our client connects hospitals with aftercare facilities across Germany, serving thousands of healthcare providers with their SaaS platform and AI-driven solutions. They're a remote-first company of approximately 120 employees from diverse backgrounds, and they're expanding their engineering team.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll work on complex features that help rehabilitation centers, care facilities, and healthcare chains optimize resource allocation, extract actionable insights from patient data, and integrate seamlessly with internal systems. You'll own a technical domain within their Go codebase, contribute to architectural decisions, and help shape the future of healthcare technology in Germany.

Responsibilities

• Own a technical domain within the core Go codebase, contributing to architecture decisions and maintaining code quality standards
• Step up and lead when your technical lead is unavailable, taking ownership of priorities and keeping the team moving forward
• Build features for marketplace analytics tools, B2C platforms, API integrations, and secure end-to-end encrypted communication systems
• Ship features reliably against the product roadmap, breaking down complex work into deliverable tasks and removing blockers
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product and design teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Contribute to pull requests, code reviews, and technical discussions as a trusted senior voice
• Support and mentor other engineers without formal people management responsibilities
• Use AI tooling actively in your daily workflow to accelerate development, prototyping, and code review processes
• Work on internal automation, performance profiling tools, database optimization, and build pipeline improvements
• Participate in the full product development flow, from clarifying specs to production deployment

What We're Looking For

• 4-5+ years of professional full-time software development experience
• Production experience with Golang, or another C-family language with demonstrable ability to work independently in Go
• Computer Science degree or equivalent practical knowledge
• Experience supporting or mentoring other engineers, with interest in a strong individual contributor role rather than people management
• Desire to become a technical owner of substantial parts of the codebase, seeking responsibility without direct reports
• Clear, confident communication skills, comfortable thinking out loud in real-time conversations rather than defaulting to async-only communication
• Strong written communication abilities for remote collaboration on requirements, documentation, and technical discussions
• Experience with advanced topics including build pipelines, caching mechanisms, and database optimization
• Proficiency with CI/CD systems and testing frameworks, with a mindset toward automation
• Proactive approach to product development, asking questions, clarifying requirements, and raising concerns early
• Genuine excitement about AI tooling and its impact on software engineering, with curiosity about where the technology is heading
• Healthcare domain experience is a bonus (FHIR, HL7, DICOM), but strong engineers from fintech, insurtech, or other compliance-heavy industries are welcome

Technical Stack: Golang, PostgreSQL, GORM, CircleCI, GitHub Actions, SonarCloud. The architecture is well-structured with some standalone services rather than sprawling microservices, including on-premise gateways for hospital integrations.

Location: Remote within Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland, France, or Austria. Fully remote-first company culture with flexible working hours.
