Data Engineer – Cloud & SaaS Integrations

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential cloud technology organization in their search for a Data Engineer to join their R&D team. This is a remote opportunity available to candidates in the UK, Ireland, Estonia, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Israel, with contractor options in Eastern Europe and Portugal.

Our client operates at the intersection of cloud infrastructure and financial intelligence. Their platform helps organizations understand and optimize spend across multiple cloud providers and SaaS platforms. As cloud architectures have grown more complex—spanning traditional cloud, data platforms, and AI vendors—the challenge of consolidating billing data from dozens of different APIs into a single, trustworthy view has become critical.

You'll own the data engineering that makes this possible, building and maintaining integrations that bring more of a customer's technology spend into visibility. This is genuine product ownership with a direct line from your work to what customers see and trust for financial decisions.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain vendor integrations. Expand coverage by building new integrations against third-party billing and usage APIs. Keep existing integrations current as vendors change their APIs and pricing models. Drive down the marginal cost of adding new integrations so coverage scales faster.
• Work AI-augmented across your workflow. Use AI daily for exploring unfamiliar codebases and APIs, prototyping approaches, generating and reviewing code, debugging, writing tests, and producing documentation. Bring judgement about where AI raises velocity and where human expertise holds the quality bar.
• Own data correctness and completeness. Ensure quality across ingestion pipelines—handling duplication, gaps, race conditions in reprocessing, marketplace deduplication, and negotiated versus list pricing. Build reconciliation checks that prove the numbers are right.
• Design normalization models. Create models that make dozens of differently-shaped vendor bills comparable—consistent units, currencies, time granularity, resource taxonomies, and cost categories.
• Manage pipeline orchestration. Own scheduling, backfill mechanics, and end-to-end pipeline operations. Make backfills a routine, safe, self-service operation.
• Collaborate and problem-solve. Work with product, support, and engineering teams to understand pain points. Propose work you think should happen—you're not here to wait for specifications.

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering or a data-heavy backend role, with production ownership of pipelines others depend on
• Strong SQL skills—you can write, read, and reason about the performance of non-trivial analytical queries
• Hands-on experience building and operating data pipelines with an orchestration framework. Dagster or Airflow highly desired; equivalent experience with Prefect, dbt, or comparable tools is relevant if you're ready to work in Dagster/Airflow
• Strong Python or another language you use fluently for data work
• Experience with a cloud data warehouse or analytical store (BigQuery, ClickHouse, Snowflake, Redshift, or similar)
• Experience integrating third-party REST APIs, including handling pagination, rate limits, partial failures, late-arriving and restated data, and inaccurate vendor documentation
• A real instinct for data correctness—you reconcile totals, question plausible-looking numbers, and build assertions rather than assumptions
• AI-augmented working style—you already use AI tools across your engineering workflow and can discuss concretely what you've gained from them
• Experience developing solutions in the cloud and using cloud services
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Self-organized, goal-oriented, and self-motivated; confident, thorough, and tenacious

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience with cloud or SaaS billing data (AWS/GCP/Azure cost exports, marketplace billing, or the FOCUS specification)
• Familiarity with Go
• Experience with systems carrying financial or audit-grade correctness requirements (invoicing, metering, revenue reconciliation, billing engines)
• Exposure to FinOps practices or cloud financial management products
• BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience
