About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential observability platform company seeking a Senior Backend Engineer - Databases to join their distributed team. This is a fully remote position based in Germany, with opportunities to work on large-scale open-source telemetry databases serving thousands of organizations globally.

You'll be joining a team that builds and operates multi-tenant distributed systems written in Go, running on Kubernetes across major cloud providers. The tech stack focuses on high-performance databases for metrics, logs, traces, and profiles—all open-source projects that also power enterprise cloud offerings.

Our client embraces AI-assisted development tools, providing company-funded usage budgets for modern coding assistants to accelerate prototyping, test generation, and refactoring within established quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, operate, and maintain critical database systems, owning reliability, performance, and availability
• Drive projects from initial ideation through to production operations and customer delivery
• Take an active role in influencing the technical roadmap and your career development
• Participate in on-call rotations and take ownership of the services you build
• Collaborate with distributed team members through video calls and asynchronous communication
• Contribute to open-source projects beyond your immediate team scope
• Support team members through design discussions, code reviews, and knowledge sharing
• Iterate on features based on customer feedback and operational metrics

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• Solid experience with at least one programming language (Go preferred, but Python, C, C++, or Rust experience translates well)
• Track record of delivering projects end-to-end in a self-driven manner, from requirements gathering to customer delivery
• Experience developing cloud-based software or systems engineering background
• Demonstrated ability to write clean, robust, performant code that's easily maintained by others
• Strong communication skills for remote collaboration across time zones
