QA Chapter Lead

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization with operations across emerging markets. Our talent team is seeking a QA Chapter Lead to join their Platform engineering function in a dual-capacity role: you will be an embedded QA engineer within one squad while simultaneously leading QA standards, tooling, and test strategy across multiple squads.

This is not a QA manager position. You will not manage a standalone QA team. Instead, you serve as the technical lead and standards-setter for a chapter of QA engineers embedded across squads, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering. Your influence extends beyond your own squad through a monthly QA Guild that ensures consistency across the broader engineering organization.

Responsibilities

As an embedded QA engineer in your squad:

• Attend all squad ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standup, sprint review, and retrospective
• Define acceptance criteria with the Product Owner before each sprint begins
• Write and maintain automated test suites covering unit, integration, and end-to-end testing for your squad's domain
• Own the squad's Definition of Done quality gate and ensure nothing ships without meeting established criteria

As QA Chapter Lead across the function:

• Define and maintain QA standards including test pyramid structure, automation tooling, naming conventions, coverage thresholds, and CI gate configuration
• Onboard new QA engineers into the chapter and establish baseline expectations
• Run monthly QA Guild sessions with counterpart Chapter Leads to align on tooling, shared frameworks, and Definition of Done consistency
• Own automation framework selection and evolution, evaluating new tooling and maintaining accessible documentation
• Report to the Head of Engineering on QA chapter health, coverage trends, flaky test rates, automation backlog, and systemic quality issues

What We're Looking For

Essential qualifications:

• 5+ years of software QA experience with at least 2 years in a Lead QA role driving test strategy across multiple teams
• Strong automation engineering skills with the ability to write test code to production standards
• Deep experience with API testing including REST, contract testing, and integration test design
• Proven track record defining and maintaining QA standards in Agile squad environments as an embedded contributor
• Experience in Java-based backend environments with the ability to read code, understand architecture, and write accurate tests

Strongly preferred:

• Experience in fintech, payments, or digital financial services with understanding of systems that handle financial transactions
• Experience with performance and load testing, including payment throughput and API concurrency limits
• Mobile app testing experience, particularly for Android platforms
• Experience building or evolving a QA chapter, guild, or community of practice across multiple teams
• Familiarity with AI-assisted test generation tooling for test case generation, regression triage, and synthetic test data creation
