Security Engineer II

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential energy technology client in their search for a Security Engineer II to join a growing security team. Our client is building cloud-native platforms that are transforming how energy systems operate globally. This is a remote position based in the UK.

As a Security Engineer II, you'll play a crucial role in securing cloud infrastructure, building security tooling, and integrating security best practices across the organisation. This is a collaborative position within a dynamic engineering environment where you'll work alongside platform and application teams to drive security by design.

Responsibilities

• Build security services and engineer security guardrails for cloud-native environments and AI systems
• Support security operations and help improve incident response processes (not on an on-call rotation)
• Build, manage, and improve enterprise security tooling such as Okta, Crowdstrike, and Zscaler with a focus on GitOps and automation
• Collaborate with IT support, platform, and application teams to harden infrastructure, systems, and applications
• Stay current with the latest security architecture and technologies, assessing their potential value
• Develop and maintain security documentation including technical guides and tooling documentation

What We're Looking For

Required:

• At least 2 years of relevant security engineering experience
• Leadership skills and ability to drive initiatives to completion
• Information security and engineering background
• Experience managing enterprise security tools at scale with a GitOps focus
• Familiarity with security tools including web application firewalls (WAFs), SAST/DAST tools, and vulnerability scanners
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to identify and mitigate security risks
• Right to work in the UK (visa sponsorship is not available)

Bonus points for:

• Experience with Python and Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools
• Previous experience managing enterprise security tools
• Familiarity with zero trust access principles and implementation
• Security certifications (CISSP, CISM, CEH, etc.)
• Cloud provider certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Security or engineering qualifications, apprenticeships, or degrees
