Engineering Manager (w/m/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization focused on digital transformation in the public sector. They are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers in building AI-driven solutions that create measurable impact for government organizations across Germany.

This is a fully remote position based in Germany, offering the opportunity to shape how AI-first development transforms both product delivery and team culture in a fast-growing technology company.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 5 engineers through both technical and people management, providing regular feedback and supporting individual career development
• Drive the cultural transformation toward AI-assisted development practices, where AI agents generate the majority of production code under human direction and oversight
• Remain hands-on with architecture decisions and complex technical challenges, contributing directly to product value
• Ensure reliable delivery, system stability, and availability within your area of responsibility while systematically addressing technical debt
• Co-lead your team alongside a Product Manager in a dual-leadership model
• Collaborate closely with other Engineering Managers, the Senior Software Architect, and Head of Development
• Take ownership of recruiting and onboarding new team members
• Prioritize work based on user and business value, maintaining a value-driven approach to all decisions
• Develop your team's capabilities both technically and organizationally to thrive in a rapidly changing environment

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Several years of experience in both technical and people leadership of engineering teams
• Genuine enjoyment of staying close to both the team and the codebase, leading in a direct and personal manner
• Architecture-level technical understanding with the ability to contribute hands-on value where needed
• Strong experience with TypeScript and Vue3 for frontend development, Python for backend systems
• Clear perspective on AI-first development: manual coding is no longer the default, you can direct, orchestrate, and control AI agents to generate the majority of code while humans own direction, architecture, and quality standards
• Experience with modern cloud and container infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and "you build it, you run it" culture
• Strong people and culture skills including empathy, active listening, conflict resolution, and ability to build sustainable trust
• Experience with situational leadership, adapting your style to team maturity and context
• Ownership mindset and accountability for team deliverables
• Change-oriented pioneer spirit: questioning the status quo, trying new approaches courageously, and inspiring others toward change
• Professional German language skills (C2 level) and business English (minimum B2)

Preferred:

• Experience in the public sector or with B2G products
• Background building or scaling engineering organizations in startup or scale-up environments
