Data Engineer- UK

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking a Data Engineer to help establish their data practice and drive operational excellence. In this role, you will:

• Take operational ownership of usage and adoption data pipelines, including monitoring and alerting systems
• Build and maintain Bronze-to-Gold data pipelines in Databricks using Unity Catalog, Spark Declarative Pipelines, and metric views
• Separate development and production environments and mature CI/CD processes for repeatable deployments and reliable rollback
• Implement and extend automated data quality checks across gold-layer tables and validate outputs against existing Power BI reports
• Reconcile figures from product-usage analytics tools and handle business system data realities including schema drift, inconsistent naming, soft deletes, and incremental loads
• Lead consolidation of additional data sources including support tickets, audit logs, CRM systems, and other customer-facing platforms
• Establish documented pipelines, access models for raw and transformed data, and a working intake process for cross-department data requests
• Co-own scoping of usage and adoption signals with Product and Post-Sales teams, prioritizing business value
• Act as the technical point of contact for the Databricks estate
• Integrate automation and AI-assisted tooling into day-to-day workflows, including automated monitoring and anomaly detection

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 3 to 5 years of professional experience building and operating production data pipelines (ETL/ELT) in commercial environments
• Hands-on Databricks proficiency including Unity Catalog, Spark Declarative Pipelines, metric views, and permissions/row-level-security implementation
• Strong SQL and Python skills applied to data engineering work, including building, testing, and supporting pipeline code through to production
• Experience with data transformation/orchestration tools such as Spark Declarative Pipelines, dbt, or equivalent platforms
• Solid grounding in data modelling using dimensional/star-schema approaches for analytics consumption
• Git-based version control and CI/CD practices applied specifically to data pipelines
• Experience ingesting data from CRM systems (Salesforce, HubSpot), product usage/telemetry platforms, and other business systems
• Ability to work independently with limited oversight, implementing and documenting solutions to an agreed direction
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with commercial teams

Preferred qualifications:

• Power BI or equivalent BI tool experience, including report validation and migration work
• Prior experience implementing data governance, metric catalogues, or access models from early-stage maturity
• Background in B2B SaaS environments
• Experience using AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude) as part of production engineering workflows
