About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential AI infrastructure organization that is redefining how intelligent systems access and retrieve information at scale. Our client operates one of the largest proprietary search indices built specifically for AI agents, serving over two million developers and Fortune 500 customers running production workloads.
This is a Senior Product Manager role focused on search infrastructure as a product. You will own the critical tradeoffs between relevance, freshness, latency, and cost that define quality for each use case. You will shape what "good enough" means when those constraints pull against each other, set the bar for what ships, and drive the roadmap for where search infrastructure needs to go as agents replace humans as the primary consumer of search.
This is a hands-on senior IC role reporting to the Director of Product, based in London. You will work directly with experienced search engineers, research teams, evaluation specialists, and customer success to set quality standards, make defensible tradeoff decisions, and influence the future direction of the index.
Responsibilities
- Set the quality bar and release criteria for search products: define what good means per use case and what changes must clear before shipping
- Own the depth, latency, and cost tradeoffs across search products and make them explicit and defensible
- Shape the direction of the search index: coverage requirements, freshness standards, and quality thresholds
- Build a point of view on where search infrastructure is heading as AI agents become the main consumer, and translate that into a roadmap
- Understand how the product compares to competitive alternatives and drive work that closes critical gaps
- Work with customer success and directly with customers to identify where results fall short in real workflows and turn findings into quality priorities
- Partner with data and vertical product owners on corpus requirements and how results should be shaped per industry
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications:
- 5+ years of product management experience with significant time spent on high-scale search or ranking systems (web search, feed ranking at large social platforms, or large ad engines)
- Background as an engineer, ML engineer, or researcher on a production system in search or ranking—this is required, not preferred, as you will make tradeoff calls alongside senior search engineers
- Direct experience shipping a search or ranking change end to end, including evaluation design and post-launch analysis
- Strong data foundation: ability to design experiments, critically read evaluation results, and distinguish real quality improvements from noise
- Product judgment to match technical depth: can decide what to build and what to leave, and defend those decisions to engineers and customers
- Strong understanding of LLMs, AI agents, and how retrieval fits into agentic workflows
- Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to move between strategy and execution
- Ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders without formal authority
Bonus qualifications:
- Deep expertise in information retrieval, NLP, or applied machine learning
- Experience with index tiering, sharding, freshness pipelines, or cost-per-query optimization at scale
- Experience with hybrid retrieval, semantic and lexical search, re-ranking, or human evaluation programs
- Experience in API-first or developer-platform businesses with both self-serve and enterprise motions
- Experience in high-growth technology companies, especially post-acquisition or startup-within-larger-organization environments
