About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization operating across Sub-Saharan Africa in a remote-first capacity. Our client is in scale-up mode with ambitious growth plans across multiple African markets, processing millions of transactions daily through their payments infrastructure.

They are seeking a Senior Project Manager to establish and run their cross-functional delivery system. This is a standalone senior role reporting to the COO—not a PMO leadership position. You will own the delivery framework that ensures clear ownership, a single source of truth, and reliable visibility across all projects, while delivery teams retain ownership of their work.

The core delivery workspace is being launched in ClickUp and will be in initial use when you join. Your role is to run it, refine it, and make it indispensable through disciplined execution.

Responsibilities

You are accountable for the integrity of the delivery system and ensuring no delivery risk reaches leadership without warning. The principle is simple: no surprises, not no slips. Projects will slip—your job is to surface risk early and clearly so leadership can make informed decisions.

Day-to-day ownership includes:

• Intake management: Ensuring every project enters with a clear, complete brief and named owner before work begins, using AI-assisted intake tooling
• Single source of truth: Maintaining a centralized, trusted view of every project in ClickUp so business owners and leadership never need ad hoc status updates
• Prioritization support: Preparing portfolio views, facilitating prioritization sessions, and ensuring force-ranked lists with explicit de-prioritized items are logged and communicated
• Escalation: Identifying blockers and stalling tasks early, flagging them to responsible line managers, and escalating to the COO when unresolved
• Cross-functional coordination: Maintaining clean interfaces across departments, ensuring alignment on deliverables and timelines, and building strong collaborative relationships
• Active coordination: Hands-on coordination of highest-priority projects while ensuring the rest run correctly through the framework
• Reporting and AI stewardship: Leveraging AI-assisted intake and reporting capabilities, turning ClickUp data into business reports and dashboards with an AI-first mindset
• Continuous improvement: Refining the delivery framework based on real use—pragmatic improvement, never process for its own sake

What you do NOT own: Delivery outcomes of individual projects, line management of delivery teams, product/engineering roadmaps, or building a PMO team.

Success metrics:

• Zero surprise rate—no missed commitments reaching leadership without prior formal flag
• Elimination of shadow trackers and ad hoc status requests
• Blocker age reduced and escalations actioned within agreed windows
• Clear prioritization decisions with known de-prioritization trade-offs
• High-quality intake with complete briefs and minimal scope rework after kickoff

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Significant experience delivering and coordinating complex, cross-functional projects in fintech, payments, or another regulated, partner-dependent environment
• Proven track record as an operator, not just an administrator—bringing order to ambiguity, driving adoption, and holding discipline without formal authority
• Fluency with ClickUp (or comparable platform), Slack, and Google Workspace
• AI-native working style—you use tools like Claude to reduce manual effort while maintaining strong judgment
• Exceptional stakeholder management and influence without authority
• Strong cross-functional coordination and risk anticipation skills
• Clear, credible communication with specialists and executives alike
• Comfort operating with high autonomy in fast-paced, ambiguous, high-growth environments
• Genuine bias toward ownership and keeping processes proportionate

Highly desirable:

• Experience delivering merchant integrations, client onboarding, or API implementation projects
• Experience across multiple African markets
• Relevant certification (PMP, PRINCE2, AgilePM, Scrum)—welcome but secondary to demonstrated ability

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process based on experience and location.
