About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing hospitality technology platform seeking a Backend Engineer (.NET) to join their Invoice & Tax team in Germany. Our client operates a modular, API-first infrastructure that powers property management operations across multiple countries.

This role sits at the intersection of hospitality operations and regulatory compliance. You'll build and maintain backend services that handle invoicing and tax requirements across different jurisdictions—solving real compliance challenges with clean, well-tested code while taking full ownership of your work from conception through production.

Responsibilities

  • Own backend projects end to end: validate requirements with product managers, design architecture, implement solutions, and manage releases
  • Build and extend backend services using.NET 10 in Docker containerized environments
  • Develop features spanning database design, business logic, and RESTful APIs, shaped by multi-country tax and invoicing regulations
  • Write comprehensive unit and end-to-end tests, taking full responsibility for code quality without a dedicated QA function
  • Monitor services in production and proactively identify and resolve issues
  • Work against regulatory and customer-driven deadlines, escalating risks early when needed
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and backend team members in an agile environment
  • Contribute to platform readiness as the organization expands into new geographic markets

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Solid, independent experience delivering backend features end to end in cloud environments
  • Strong.NET/C# backend development experience
  • Genuine interest in tax, legal, and compliance subject matter—multi-country invoicing legislation is core to this role
  • Meticulous, detail-driven working style appropriate for compliance-heavy work
  • Proactive communication skills: comfortable clarifying requirements, flagging risks, and escalating early
  • Hands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
  • Experience with Docker and containerized workflows
  • Cloud platform experience (AWS or Azure)
  • Familiarity with message-based or asynchronous systems (Kafka, Azure Service Bus)
  • Understanding of microservices concepts and API-driven architecture
  • Ability to break down tasks, estimate work, and deliver features incrementally
  • Fluent English

Preferred:

  • Experience with Kafka or other streaming/messaging systems
  • Exposure to Kubernetes/ECS or cloud-native DevOps practices
  • Database optimization and performance tuning experience
  • Background working in SaaS or API-first products
  • Experience with AI-assisted coding tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar)

What makes this role unique: This position offers the opportunity to work in a compliance-heavy domain where different countries' tax and invoicing legislation shapes implementation decisions. You'll have a direct hand in enabling market expansion by ensuring the platform meets regulatory requirements in new jurisdictions. The team is transitioning from Scrum to Kanban workflows as it grows and evolves.
