(Senior) Controller / Finance Business Partner (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential e-commerce organization in Hamburg that needs experienced finance business partners to drive their next growth phase. In this role, you will own financial stewardship for one or more central business units, working directly with leadership to ensure decisions are data-driven and profitable.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Partner with business unit leaders as their finance counterpart, steering KPIs, budgets, and financial outcomes while proactively addressing variances
• Analyze P&L and contribution margins down to product, channel, market, or cost-center level to identify concrete levers for improvement
• Build forecasts, scenario models, and business cases that transparently show the financial impact of different strategic choices
• Support annual planning and budget cycles, evolving them into dynamic steering instruments rather than static exercises
• Challenge cost structures on efficiency, scalability, and profitability, questioning existing approaches where needed
• Develop management reporting, dashboards, and early-warning systems in collaboration with finance and data teams
• Connect operational KPIs to financial outcomes, creating clarity on where the business earns, loses, or should invest capital
• Support liquidity planning, cashflow steering, and working capital management—analyzing inventory, procurement terms, payment cycles, and capital efficiency
• Drive automation, standardization, and digitalization of controlling processes as the function scales
• Collaborate closely with executive leadership, finance, accounting, data, and operational departments

What We're Looking For

• Completed degree in business administration, finance, controlling, economics, or equivalent qualification
• Several years of experience in controlling, FP&A, or finance business partnering—ideally within e-commerce, D2C, retail, fashion, FMCG, or fast-growth environments
• Deep understanding of P&L dynamics: you can explain the operational decision behind every financial movement
• Fluency with concepts like contribution margin, cashflow, working capital, forecasting, and business case modeling
• Expert-level proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, capable of structuring and analyzing large datasets
• Experience with BI tools, ERP systems, and automated reporting is a strong plus
• Analytical precision combined with speed to recommendation—you don't get lost in analysis paralysis
• Willingness to challenge numbers and assumptions rather than simply accept them
• Ability to translate complex financial topics for non-finance stakeholders in clear, actionable terms
• Independent working style with strong ownership mentality; comfortable in fast-paced, results-oriented environments
• Very good German and good English language skills
