About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential global IP solutions organization in their search for a Business Development Director - Legal based in the United Kingdom. Our client serves Am Law 200 firms and Fortune 500 corporate legal departments with AI-powered workflows and comprehensive intellectual property management solutions.
This is a strategic commercial role responsible for driving revenue growth through new business acquisition and account expansion within the intellectual property and legal services sectors. You will own the full sales lifecycle while collaborating with operations, solutions, and executive leadership teams across a global organization. Travel will be required for client meetings and industry events.
Responsibilities
- Drive new business growth by identifying, qualifying, and closing opportunities within assigned territories and target markets
- Develop and execute strategic sales plans to achieve or exceed annual revenue and pipeline targets
- Manage the complete sales cycle from prospecting through contract negotiation and closing
- Generate qualified pipeline through outbound prospecting, networking, referrals, industry events, and existing relationships
- Identify expansion opportunities within existing accounts through cross-selling and upselling initiatives
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with key decision-makers across corporate legal departments and law firms
- Understand client business challenges and position solutions to address strategic objectives
- Collaborate with operations, program directors, and solutions teams to develop tailored proposals, SOWs, RFP responses, and pricing
- Partner with the global commercial team to define value propositions and sales strategies
- Maintain accurate opportunity management, forecasting, and pipeline reporting within Salesforce
- Deliver reliable sales forecasts and provide regular updates on performance and business opportunities
- Monitor market trends and identify emerging opportunities within the IP and legal technology sectors
- Represent the organization at industry conferences and networking events to strengthen brand awareness
What We're Looking For
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
- Extensive experience in business development, sales, or account management within legal services, intellectual property, eDiscovery, litigation, legal technology, SaaS, or legal translation/localization industries
- Proven track record of consistently achieving or exceeding sales quotas and revenue targets
- Demonstrated success identifying, developing, and closing complex enterprise sales opportunities
- Experience managing both new business acquisition and strategic account growth
- Experience working within multinational or global organizations preferred
Technical Skills:
- Strong experience using Salesforce or another enterprise CRM platform
- Comfortable preparing commercial proposals, pricing, SOWs, and responding to RFPs
- Strong Microsoft Office skills and overall digital proficiency
