Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential professional services organization seeking a Power BI Developer to join their Finance team. This role reports directly to the Finance Director and focuses on building unified reporting models across multiple business systems including PSA, accounting, resource management, and CRM platforms.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Build and maintain Power BI reporting for leadership, including executive dashboards, budget versus actual reporting, utilization metrics, and customer profitability analysis
  • Create unified reporting models across PSA, accounting, resource management, and CRM systems, including entity matching between platforms
  • Design and maintain semantic models using star schema architecture, relationship management, and performance optimization techniques
  • Administer Power BI Service including workspace management, gateway configuration, scheduled refreshes, and row-level security
  • Automate recurring finance reconciliation tasks to auditable and reproducible standards
  • Reconcile all reporting output back to source systems and document evidence as part of delivery
  • Gather requirements from non-technical stakeholders across finance, sales, and operations, converting them into written specifications
  • Work within established delivery processes covering planning, scoping, authorization, peer review, and documentation

What We're Looking For

Power BI Technical Skills:

  • Substantial hands-on Power BI development experience in production environments
  • Advanced DAX including measures, calculated columns, time intelligence, and complex calculations
  • Power Query expertise covering ETL, data transformation, and M language
  • Data modelling proficiency including star schema, relationship management, and performance optimization
  • Power BI Service administration including workspace management, gateway configuration, scheduled refreshes, and row-level security
  • SQL proficiency with queries, joins, views, and stored procedures

Financial Domain Knowledge:

  • Previous experience building financial reporting dashboards or working with accounting and finance systems
  • Understanding of core financial metrics such as gross margin, EBITDA, utilization, cost to serve, and project profitability
  • Experience with management accounts, customer profitability analysis, divisional P&L, or budget variance reporting
  • Ability to understand business context behind financial data and identify insights beyond rendering figures

Accuracy and Reconciliation:

  • Consistently reconcile reporting output back to source and present reconciliation as part of delivery
  • Treat figures driving invoices with appropriate rigor and testing standards
  • Proactively surface limitations of your own work before others identify them

Professional Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to finance professionals and financial concepts to technical colleagues
  • Self-starter capable of working independently with direction from the Finance Director
  • Able to gather requirements from business stakeholders and work patiently with colleagues who may not think in data terms
  • Disciplined working practices including use of shared workspaces, source control, and thorough documentation

Desirable Experience:

  • API integration experience including REST, OAuth2, and webhooks
  • Data warehouse or lakehouse delivery involvement including staging layer design, dimensional modelling, and incremental loading
  • Integration experience with accounting platforms such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or NetSuite
  • PSA and MSP tooling experience with platforms like Halo PSA, ConnectWise, Autotask, or comparable systems
  • Background in MSP, professional services, or project-based businesses where billable utilization matters
  • Microsoft Fabric experience including lakehouse, pipelines, and capacity licensing
  • Low-code automation tools such as Power Automate or Zapier
  • AI-assisted development experience within reviewed workflows
