About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential AI research organization seeking a Japanese PDF Annotation Specialist for remote contract work. Our client is building advanced document-understanding systems and needs native Japanese speakers who can prepare training data with exceptional accuracy.
This is a remote contract role based in Switzerland, offering structured project work with clear quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Source publicly accessible Japanese PDFs containing multimodal elements (text, images, tables) and document their origins
- Annotate document structure by identifying and bounding every meaningful region, assigning component types and reading-order indices
- Record relationships between regions and parent components such as figures or tables
- Transcribe all text with complete fidelity, reproducing kanji, hiragana, katakana, and handwritten content exactly as it appears
- Capture page-level metadata including language, document type, source URL, page dimensions, and flags for tables and handwriting
- Conduct peer review of colleague work, ensuring every task receives end-to-end validation by a second Japanese language expert
What We're Looking For
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Native Japanese speaker with full command of kanji, hiragana, and katakana
- Professional experience in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, or editorial work
- Character-level accuracy mindset, prioritizing precision over speed
- Systematic approach capable of applying a taxonomy consistently across diverse documents
- Comfort working with unfamiliar layouts including vertical text and multi-column newspapers
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AI training data annotation, labeling, or bilingual evaluation projects
- Background in transcription and localization, including MTPE, subtitling, or OCR correction
- Document production experience such as typesetting, copy-editing, or proofreading
