Senior software engineer (Node.js/TypeScript)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization that is building the infrastructure behind the next generation of investment platforms. Our client powers investment solutions for major financial institutions across the UK and is now expanding into Europe. They operate within a well-established technology group and hold B Corp certification, demonstrating their commitment to balancing profit with purpose.

We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong Node.js and TypeScript expertise to join their Product and Engineering organization. This is a hybrid role based in London, with flexible working arrangements that trust teams to determine how and where they work best.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Design, build, and operate reliable and scalable software solutions using TypeScript and Node.js within a domain-aligned cross-functional squad
• Own your services from design through to operation, maintaining accountability for SLAs and iterative improvements
• Work with AWS serverless technologies including Lambda, SQS, EventBridge, API Gateway, S3, and ECS
• Support resilient financial workflow systems and regulated investment operations
• Maintain and extend documentation for your services while fostering a culture of continuous improvement
• Provide guidance and mentorship to other engineers as a senior member of the team
• Participate in the build-and-run model, including structured on-call rotation for incident management
• Communicate effectively with non-technical colleagues across customer-facing and operations teams

What We're Looking For

Essential technical skills:

• Strong commercial experience with Node.js and TypeScript
• Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services
• Experience with serverless architectures and products
• Experience with document databases, ideally MongoDB
• Proven experience mentoring engineers and leading technical delivery
• Experience in a structured on-call process and incident management
• Background working in regulated industries, ideally financial services or fintech

Key attributes:

• Strong ability to understand business and customer problems and turn them into efficient, scalable solutions
• Experience designing, building, and running high-quality, standards-compliant workflow APIs with a focus on testing, observability, and performance
• Comfortable working with distributed systems and debugging through tracing and observability
• Experience in a strongly/statically typed language
• Pragmatic approach to balancing customer value, operational correctness, engineering quality, and long-term scalability
• Willing to take ownership and be accountable for services from design to operation

Advantageous experience:

• Building financial systems with multi-region, multi-currency, or trading-related complexity
• Infrastructure as code using Terraform or similar tools
